Most Models Get This Part Wrong:
Many models assume that to get started, they need to do trade-for-print (TFP) shoots with photographers. And while that can be a stepping stone, it often means giving up creative control. When you’re not paying for a shoot, the photographer usually calls the shots—and that might not align with your personal brand or career goals.
TFP is a gamble.
You’re at the mercy of whatever the photographer wants. That’s fine sometimes, but if you want control over your brand, you need to treat your portfolio like the career asset it is.
Your images are your business card.
They should speak to the kind of jobs you want to book and the level you want to play at. That means getting crystal clear on your vision. Your hair, your styling, your locations, your energy. Everything matters. Because casting directors, agencies, and brands want to see how you show up before they invest in you.
